Slow and deliberate with all the soul and warmth. Loved all of this one. LIG is special. Second set is gorgeous, Eyes is a slow ride home on the surrey with fringe on top. Wharf Rat too.
Lots of booming bass here.

Thanks to my brother Drew for staying out all night and getting front row tickets to this show. I knew from the opening that this was going to be a special show. During slip knot the whole bands watching Jerry as he shakes his head no then when he finally says yes and they hit the final progression to go into Franklins Tower I seriously melted!! This show was awesome in spite of the crowd that would not get up and dance. Being my first show I was unaware that you get up and dance at a Dead concert. So glad to be able to hear this show again.

Everyone talks about the Help>Slip>Franklin's, and perhaps deservedly so (though I have others I prefer) but it's the second set jams that have really drawn me into this one. Everything from Dancin' on is great, and this set carries a unique, almost minimalist, hypnotic funk quality that really grows on you. My favorite part of the set is the part of the show that was never officially released: Estimated>Eyes is one of the best parings of those tunes of the year, with the Estimated being particularly groovy.

I love this H>S>F and it's definitely in top 5 of the year no doubt about that. My favorite of '77 has to be 6/9 Winterland. Anyways I think this Dancin' is 2nd best to 5/8. Nothing can beat that one as far as the Disco Dead versions, but this one is nearly as good. Overall a great show but def. listen to this Dancin' in the Streets if u like the disco version

Review for show--obviously not for recording, since it isn't accessible :-( Everyone's tastes are different and the range of other reviews is enlightening. But to this 1977 fanatic, this show is up there with Boston, Cornell, Buffalo, the Fox (19th), the Mosque, and May 1 at the Palladium. No matter how great those shows, they all have at least a couple songs where the gang is simply going through the motions (eg, almost the entire first set of Cornell). There isn't a single song this night that doesn't have something very special about it.

Recording is ok.
Don't know any mess about which these others speak, just enjoyin what they give me instead of cryin about what they don't. Jerry's dead, so I don't know what he woulda done except that I do know he drove around in a BMW. Thus, I suspect he loved money too. If you didn't know him, can you honestly speak on what he woulda done? After all, no one thought he'd take back to doing what killed him.

Full shows or FO, what happened to the AUDs here, October '77 just disappeared. Rhino is ruining everything. No more DP's, WTF...I mean now we got this roadtripzzzzzzzzzz shit, piece of shows. Who wants that shit? Maybe as a filler, like on DP's 35 for instance or DP 21 right off the top of my head.
Not only that but there are no AUD of the shows that RoadTrips take a piece from? WEAK.
Meanwhile while I will continue to bitch about this B/S, let me also say that although I have to say that BGP(Bill Graham Presents) has been SOLD to Live Nation AKA TICKETBASTARD! Bill is shaking his head at what they did to his wonderful business-guess money talks, kinda like Bobby sellin' the vault. Fuck that shit, Jer would have NEVER let that happen, NEVER. Bill was the man with the plan & a great businessman, I has collected his products for years and have many of the original posters, handbills, postcards, programs, proofs, "guest passes" AKA backstage passes, since when they were originally handstitched-patches, all the way to the final '95 Comic passes, etc. Bill was the MAN. ((((RIP))))
Don't believe me, look: (or search BGP or Bill Graham Presents-from '66 on, and they even continued after his fatal helicopter crash in 1991. Brent overdosing and dying 7.26.90 and Bill's death pushed Jerry back to dope. A man with a heart like Jer's just numbed himself, it was all he knew what to do. Too much pain.

A few misses, but plenty of highlights to keep everyone grinning. Can't go wrong with a nice (if a bit short) Help/Slip/Franklin to start the show. Jack Straw is very strong, and Let it Grow is a first set stunner. Jerry gets super fat 'n funky in Dancin to start the second, with Eyes and NFA the highlights of a quality set. No letdown throughout... good sound... don't overlook this show.

No it aint perfect, but is anything after 6/9/77?( or before!) maybe, it all hides subtle ideas for us to run with. Sometimes a small portion, a song, even an split second inside 3 hours of playing drives you and is worth the experience, Phils bass line in the second Roll Away the Dew in the First Corus of Franklin's Tower does that for me, a little John Kahn influenced maybe. Also Keith's post spring77 style of playing is special in its own right,
five stars for unique qualities, not worth missing.
I admit I could be more critical, and realize I tend to only review my 5star shows, after all, they are the ones worth getting excited about.

This show may have it's issues, but I have to love it. I was born while this show was happening. Shot out of the womb like Phil's opening bass line on Help. 700 miles away, but I knew what was happening.
Instrument balance great. Watch out for the Slip cut, it will take you by surprise.

In typical Dead fashion the first set is quite sloppy, but we do get a taste of classic GD in the second set. I will mention that overall, the sound quality is pretty darn good. Help Slip Frank is besieged by foibles on Jerry's part. Let It Grow has some hard edged jams and an improvised rock progression thrown into the jam. Dancin' gets us definitely on the right track. After a slow down Dire Wolf, Estimated through Around and Around comprises a seamless jam and the band is energetic and powerful. This is not a perfect show, nor does it rival the best shows of '77, however the second set jam is worth at least a listen...

77 was just a monster year period. october 77 is probably second only to may of 77 as the best month, and this may be one of the top shows of october...the H>S>F is one of the most mellowest combo of these songs, and it is a good one, but a little short...it still packs a good punch....
the rest of the show takes off after dancin, which is a grove fest....dire wolf is a strong one coming off the high of dancin and well the show is just a good solid 77 show...

While this show may not be the best 1977 has to offer, I'll say it's definitely a keeper. Killer sdbd, great setlist and overall a great performance.
OK, now my rant which is general in nature.....who the fuck cares if 4.5 seconds of a song is cut, don't download it then. The AUD patch of 6 seconds on Good Lovin' is horrible, don't download it then. The version of Eyes on 9-11-74 is much better than this version, don't download it then. John Doe has only written 3 reviews and doesn't know what he's talkin about, don't download it then. Jerry is way off for 8 seconds on Wharf Rat and he screws up 7 words of lyrics. don't download it then. I think you get my point. ALL THIS MUSIC IS FREE, SO WHY BITCH?!
Archives has broken new ground for downloading and we should all be thankful.

sorry for the cheesy pun, but.... it's fucking true, jizz... these cats are just smoking on this night. help/slip/frank is always great to hear, but it's jack straw that really starts to bring the hammer down. peggy-o is sparse and gorgeous, deal is boss as always from this yr, and this version of let it grow is one of my faves from this era, crushing and delicate at the same time. the second set is really where this scene starts to get wild. the sequence from estimated thru wharf rat is the grateful goddamn dead at their finest, with a near perfect eyes, and a mind-colonic of a not fade away. this show'll fix you right up, if indeed you need fixing. if you don't, well, just let it kick your ass.

BTW If you love the NFA in this show (you should if you're normal) then check out the NFA on 10/15/77

I don't know, this H>S>F is alright, kind of short Slipknot. I think better versions lie in earlier '77. Personally I think even 6/14/91 is a better version (of Slipknot particularly). I would rate this show more for the Let it Grow, Dancin and solid versions of everything in the 2nd set.
In my opinion, 10/29 is a better show from this month.

This was the first GD show I ever heard, little more than a year ago, and I haven't looked back since. From Phil's perfect drop into Franklin's Tower, I knew I'd been missing some serious masterpieces all my life. This is one of my favorite H>S!>F jams. Jerry rips it up on Let it Grow and Dancin' is super funky, also one of the best of the year.
The Estimated>Eyes jam is really good, as is the Not Fade Away.
Definitely check this show out, got me hooked.

The show starts out on a booming note with Phil smoking through an outstanding Help On The Way, which unfortunately is abruptly cut in this file. The show features an exquisite rendition of Peggy O. Jerry's finger work in this number builds gradually to a nice crescendo. The highlight of this show is the funkalicious Dancin' In The Streets JAM (17Min)! The recording quality is outstanding. The two people that said that have reviewed a combined 6 shows. I have listened to over 300 on LMA and this let it grow is one of the best on the whole site as is the est>eyes and very hot not fade to boot.
I cringe whenever I see one guy sid weiss come in and give a show 12 people have given a 5 and he gives it a 2 or 3 because he says it has 'bad sound' no he is just a twisted fruit with an anti social bent. If you cannot honestly and intelligently rate this go back to XLII's.
My advice going forward get guidance from the folks who have consistently proven their credibility in picking kind shows like this. Enough said...

The sound quality of this recording is typical of 77 boards, which is to say it's good. But the performance is lacking - and this is coming from a 77 fanatic. I agree with the other reviewers who feel that Jerry is off. He muffs a number of lyrics and his playing is generally uninspired relative to other shows from this era. While there are a few highlights, overall this show is for completists only.
-------
Man, I come back and check in on this a year later and find several people spewing negativity on those of us who don't love this show. I don't get it. If we're all supposed to have the same opinion what's the point of posting comments? The idea is to provide some opinions to help folks make informed decisions as to which shows they might like to DL. I read these comments all the time and I find them extremely helpful in filtering shows. May I respectfully suggest: time for a head check folks. What are you hoping to accomplish by bashing other reviewers? And yeah, I broke the "comments pertaining to the show rule" too now. I apologize, but my goat was got. For penance I will now blaze a sacrificial bowl and listen to 3 Scarlet->Fires. Peace.

This show definitely has its moments (Let It Grow, Dancin', NFA), but overall, there are much better 77 shows out there. Powerful Deal ending is of honorable mention. Great sound quality, but I tend to agree with 4x4, Jerry is off overall. However, the rest of the band is on for the most part. I'd give it a 3.5, but I cant so...4.

I don't know what Dick or any of you see in this show, it really isn't that good. Jerry is OFF. Cool dancin' and NFA but thats about it.

LET IT GROW LET IT GROW LET IT GROW LET IT GROW
LIG is fierce and worth the download alone.
H/S/F starts off the show sloppy, but they do come around.

From the deal>let it grow (which is one of the best I have heard to the hot dancin estimated>eyes which is another for the record books, great show all the way around even for '77.
PS this is most definately one of the funkiest and most ripping estimateds and the NOT FADE ++ they are on steroids just cannot get enough of this....

This is a really good show, the bouncy dancing groove (the Dead's take on disco?) really dominates, but doesn't distract from a great show. The sound is almost 100%, a few glitches in NFA are really minor points, it is a real good SBD recording! Download and enjoy!

10-11-77 bid a fine farewell to the always excellent triumvirate of Help/Slipknot/Franklin's, at least until the groove returned in the 80s. Definitely my favorite versions of all three songs. Just listen that bass drum to start the show. You know its going to be a winner. A super funky show that brings the dance machine straight to your brain and doesnt let up. Lesh slides all over the fretless, Jerry wails, and the second set throws down bigtime. Perhaps the show that converted me to the Dead after Pigpen. Enjoy.
